Deciding when to do the first haircut has proven to be a hard decision for us...We struggled with it for Sam, and we stuggled with it for Henry. There's just something about the cut - there's no going back to true babyness after it! But after enough comparisons to Don King and Seinfeld's Kramer (!) we decided the time had come. So we headed over to our family's hair stylist - Nadine - and entrusted her to this sacred rite. The funny thing was, when Sam got his first haircut, it made him look months younger. His haircuts still make him look like a little boy. But Henry's cut made him look older! Our little baby all of a sudden grew up into a big boy (but still a very cute big boy!)

Henry gets ready for the big trim. "Just a
little off the top please" we all say!

Henry wasn't too phased by the whole thing. The only problem was he kept turning his head to see what was touching his head! But fortunately Nadine's able hands didn't cut off anything we wanted to keep!

Here's our big boy transformed! His little curls got tighter so it looked even shorter than it was!

Getting a haircut can be a lot of work! Henry takes a snooze while mom and dad share a sandwich to rebuild our strength!
Wow! After two solid days of R&R, we were on the road again, this time heading to Washington DC for Jen's annual anthropology conference. Sam and Henry had a great time with fellow anthropologists-in-training Nick and Cate (accompanied by non-anthropologist, father and babysitter Dave). We got adjoining rooms at our hotel, making for a non-stop 2-4 year-old party! Activities included a trip to the zoo, the Air and Space Museum, and the Natural History Museam (AKA the "Dinosaur museum")! While the moms were away working and working it, the six of us had a blast!

Somehow, feeding Henry is always a fun activity... everyone wants a turn!

Of course, when there's no one around, Henry has learned to help himself!

Sam and Nick loved riding the metro... especially watching the trains come in and out of the station.

Not to be outdone by Sam, Nick did his best to make Henry laugh - with lots of success!

Henry got the chance to make his own friends... here he is meeting Jen's high-school friend Kim...

... and here he meets his contemporary, Maia, along with her parents Lora and Gary.
